Think back to the cast of 'Dead Poets Society' for this. Her songs, and album composition are like gaming and puzzles for fans, almost like musical dungeons and dragons. I prefer her live shows to her albums, she's an entertainer in addition to everything else

She has 100% control on what she puts out and how it sounds and writes/directs her music videos. She writes all of her songs, a lot do have co-writers but they are usually there for her to bounce ideas off of. She usually has a few songs on every album that are completely self written except Speak Now which she entirely wrote all by herself. There are clips and videos of her writing process and its honestly amazing to watch her work. Edit: I just wanted to add that The Tortured Poets Department (this album) is very personal to Taylor, she wrote it for herself. She said she literally had to write it to get all of these feelings out so she could move on. The whole album is sprinkled with this raw pain and you can feel it in her words. It also switches from the 80s synth, to slow piano ballads, and even has some country influences. She really went onto this album just doing her and thats why its become my new favorite album of hers.

What makes Ren a little more special than many musicians is the fact that he does all by himself. Writing the music, writing the lyrics, playing the instruments, singing, mixing and producing the music. This gives him more creative freedom and his mind uses this freedom to create truly unique style. Impressive. And he is mostly self taught which may be the reason for him to be so unusual. A true artist with a lot of suffering.

The scene where it pans out and theyre laying down, theyre laying down on an image of her head, and reading from the book titled "us"... as if its happening in her head. Also symbolism of Posty not having tattoos- as in thats the mark shes left on him. Whereas the beginning where she saw his tattoos on her face.. for the mark he left on her.

You should definitely look more into her catalogue. It's extremely vast and diverse. I get the sense you'd fall down the rabbit hole pretty easily and really like a lot of it She's a master storyteller and extremely particular, the lyrics, the arrangement, the music video, the live performance they're always so well thought out and cohesive, they all play their part in telling whatever story she's trying to communicate. I prefer her later albums (folklore, evermore, midnight's and this one the tortured poets department) because at 45 yo they are the ones containing stories I still relate to. I enjoy her older music too but not quite on the same level because those times were already a decade behind me when she was writing about them.

Actually the two doctors (Ethan Hawke and Josh Charles) were both in Dead Poets society and the names on their lab coats are the names of their characters in that movie. Also the quick image of the needles going up and down on the printout spell the line "I love you it's ruining my life" and that's what Post is looking at just before rushing to unplug the shock therapy. I believe the scene where they are lying on a paper silhouette of her head represents what's going on in her head and then when the papers are swirling around them it's her thoughts swirling. I'm almost 68 (an old rock/blues guy) and decided to take a dive into Swift last January to see what the fuss was about. I was shocked by several things.... - I knew about Kanye West taking the mic away from her when she won her first VMA. I was unaware he and Kim Kardashian intentionally set Swift up to humiliate her, and destroy both her reputation and career. It failed to destroy her career but it would be several years until the unedited video was leaked vindicating Swift and showing them to be the liars. - She writes or co-writes all of her songs - She writes and directs her music videos - On stage she doesn't just sing, she puts on a show - How generous she is with her employees, her donations, and acts of kindness to fans - She randomly shows up at fan birthdays, wedding/baby showers, and engagement parties. Who does that? - There are numerous tiny details in her videos that are easy to miss. I've found myself watching her videos multiple times searching for easter eggs, which is actually rather fun. - Her lyrics are like a master class in creative poetry - And most shocking of all, there are several of her songs I really do enjoy

It's probably been mentioned, that Ren has released a series of 'chapters' on @renmakesstuff You don't have to 'react' to it but it's well worth watching. It's 8 chapters he released leading up to this song. Great reaction too and I love your honesty and I subscribe to that.

7:50: more so than Taylor having a good voice, she has worked really hard for years to perfect her craft. She's taken vocal lessons, implemented strategies to improve breath control, she's learned how use her strengths in a way that they could support her areas of growth opportunity. In one of her songs from folklore "mirrorball", she says "I've never been a natural, all I do is try, try, try", and I think that is so true because she is always looking for ways to be a better version of herself. It's really that work ethic and authenticity that draws people into the swiftie world. I know that is what lured me down the rabbit hole when I really was in need of something to inspire me to get through a difficult time.

BETTER THAN REVENGE.... rocks !

I think this is a little deceptive for a first listen. Taylor has been recording since she was 15. She has crossed several genre's of music. She has 13 albums out. The Reputation album was the first one I dived into. I knew some of her earlier pop/country songs, but didn't really know anything else about her. I saw the video for "Ready for It" with the intro for her Reputation tour because it popped up on my home page. I was blown away and started my deep dive from there.

In case you decide to do more Taylor (if you want to, that is) a good performance to listen to would be death by a thousand cuts live performance. Its really good writing plus melodies that stick to your head. Not a part of her venture into folk, but its a really good song :)

The cinematographer is the same one that worked with Martin Scorsese on Killer of the Flower Moon, among other hit movies. The story line refers to the first 'It' girl, actress, Clara Bow, which has a song under the same name on this album. Ultimately, Clara Bow was committed to a mental hospital and it was 'blamed' on losing a lover, suffering a break up and a broken heart. The dog refers to another song, The Black Dog, on the album. And yes, she wrote the song, was instrumental in writing the music, produced the video, and handpicked everyone that worked on the video. She has total artistic control over everything she touches, and has had for a number of years. I appreciate that you notice a lot of these things and recognize the hard work and talent she possesses.

So in this song she imagines years later she and her past love end up as neighbors and all of those feelings are stirred back up as they are now married to other people and unhappy in their marriages and she can’t help but hate his wife. Love your review. My husband and I listen to multiple genres and decades. It was nice to see a fair analysis from someone with an open mind. She’s a great writer.
